What is involved in a neuropsychological assessment
A neuropsychologist is a psychologist that specialises in understanding the brain and behaviour.
An assessment with a neuropsychologist usually takes between 3-4 hours and is typically divided into two parts.
The first part is an interview. Here, the neuropsychologist will ask you questions about your background and how things have been going for you recently.
The second part usually involves completing tasks that look at different thinking skills, like memory and problem-solving. These tasks are not pass/fail like you may have seen at school, they are designed to see where you are at and how things are going for you. The most important thing is for you to try your best. You will be given opportunities to have as many breaks as you need throughout the assessment.
